What Happens When a Great Leader Changes Companies?

A leader can be celebrated for years.

"She's incredible." "She's loyal." "She has so much integrity."

Then she makes a business decision. She decides another vendor is a better fit for her future — and suddenly, the story changes.

She's called selfish, dishonest, or manipulative. Her motives are questioned. Years of friendship can disappear with a resignation post.

So what actually changed?

When Fear Rewrites the Story

Sometimes people do leave badly. But I'm talking about the leader who leaves with integrity — whose character hasn't changed, but whose decision could affect our income, rank, volume, people, or security.

That's when fear can rewrite the story.

If I make you wrong, I don't have to feel the loss. If I question your character, I don't have to examine why you left. If I make you the enemy, I don't have to keep loving you when loving you no longer benefits me.

And that makes me sad.

I've watched genuine friendships dissolve over vendor decisions. People who poured into each other for years become strangers in a week. The traditional network marketing model can unintentionally teach us to attach our relationships, identity, and security to one vendor company.

When someone we love chooses something different, their freedom can suddenly feel like our threat.

It's easy to love someone when they're producing, loyal to our vendor, building underneath us, and supporting our decisions. The real test comes when they don't.

Can I disagree with your decision and still honor you? Can I feel hurt without hurting you back? Can I genuinely want you to succeed when your path no longer benefits me?

Was I really loving you — or had fear attached my love to an outcome I needed from you?
