ESS Lifestyle Coaching wasn't built in a boardroom. It was built from the hard lessons of network marketing failure — and the determination to create something better. This is the Gloom to Boom story.

Every business has an origin story. Most of them are polished. ESS Lifestyle Coaching's is honest.
ESS wasn't created by people who had everything figured out. It was created by people who had been through the grind of traditional network marketing — the recruiting treadmill, the dead downlines, the income that never quite materialized — and decided to build something fundamentally different.
That journey from struggle to solution is what the book Gloom to Boom is about. And it's the foundation on which ESS Lifestyle Coaching was built.
The Problem With "Just Recruit More"
Rome Batchelor, Creator and Initiating Founder of ESS, spent years inside traditional network marketing structures. He saw firsthand what happens when a business model is built around recruitment volume instead of team quality.
You recruit. People join. People go quiet. You recruit more. The cycle repeats. The income never compounds the way the pitch promised. And the coaches who are supposed to be building a lifestyle end up working harder than ever just to stay in place.
Wayne Sutton, Co-Founder of ESS, brought his own experience to the table — the perspective of someone who had seen both the promise and the failure of network marketing up close, and who understood that the problem wasn't the people. The problem was the structure.
Together, they asked a different question: What would network marketing look like if it was designed to actually work?
The Gloom
"Gloom" isn't just a metaphor. It's the real experience of building something that doesn't hold together.
It's the feeling of recruiting your tenth person in a month and watching nine of them go inactive within 90 days. It's the income disclosure that shows a handful of top earners and a sea of people making almost nothing. It's the realization that the system you're working isn't broken by accident — it's broken by design, because churn is profitable for the company even when it's devastating for the coach.
The Gloom is what happens when you follow the script and the script doesn't work.
The Boom
The Boom is what happens when you stop following the script and start building something real.
For Rome and Wayne, the Boom came from a set of structural decisions that run counter to almost everything traditional network marketing teaches:
Slow down enrollment. Instead of recruiting as fast as possible, require two-coach approval before anyone can join. Fewer members, but better ones.
Build deep, not wide. Instead of chasing a massive flat downline, build a four-generation duplication model where quality compounds over time.
Give people a real goal. Instead of vague promises about "financial freedom," teach every member to calculate their Financial Independence Number — the specific monthly income they need to replace their current lifestyle.
Make coaching real. Instead of handing someone a starter kit and wishing them luck, create a system where coaches are genuinely invested in the success of the people they approve.
These decisions didn't make ESS the easiest network marketing opportunity to join. They made it the most intentional.
What ESS Lifestyle Coaching Stands For
ESS — Exclusive Social Synergy — is a name that reflects the philosophy behind the company.
Exclusive because membership is earned, not purchased. The two-coach approval process exists to protect the quality of every team in the network.
Social because the business is built on real relationships — between coaches and members, between generations of a team, between people who are genuinely invested in each other's success.
Synergy because the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. A well-built ESS team creates results that no individual could create alone.
The tagline — Synergize Your Biz, Enjoy Your Life — isn't marketing copy. It's a description of what ESS is actually designed to produce: a business that works well enough that you can enjoy the life you're building.
The Book
Gloom to Boom is more than a business book. It's a field guide for anyone who has experienced the frustration of traditional network marketing and is looking for a better way.
It covers the structural failures of conventional MLM, the principles behind the ESS system, and the mindset shifts required to build something that lasts. It's the kind of book that Rome and Wayne wish had existed when they were starting out.
If you've ever built a downline that went dead, recruited people who disappeared, or worked harder than you ever expected for results that never came — Gloom to Boom was written for you.
Where ESS Is Going
ESS Lifestyle Coaching is still in its early chapters. The ESS Unveiling Webinar is bringing the system to a wider audience. The community is growing — carefully, intentionally, one approved coach at a time.
The Gloom to Boom story isn't just about where ESS came from. It's about where every ESS coach is going: from the frustration of a system that doesn't work, to the momentum of one that does.
If you're ready to find out whether ESS is the right next chapter for you, start with the waitlist. The story is still being written — and there's room for coaches who are ready to do it differently.
