What if the fastest way to become better at network marketing was to stop trying to convince people?
For decades, network marketers have been taught to enter conversations with an objective:
Get the prospect. Get the appointment. Get them to watch the presentation. Handle the objections. Get the application. Close the sale.
And even when we try to hide that objective behind friendly conversation, there's a problem:
People can feel it.
They can sense when there is an agenda behind the conversation.
And the moment someone feels like they're being "worked," something changes.
Their guard goes up. They become more cautious. They start wondering:
What does this person want from me?
At ESS, we believe there is a much better way.
Stop Trying to Get the Yes
Imagine walking into every conversation genuinely willing to hear NO.
Not as a technique. Not as reverse psychology. Actually mean it.
You aren't trying to convince someone that ESS, a product, a vendor, or a business opportunity is right for them.
You're trying to discover the truth.
Is this person a fit — or not?
That simple change can transform the entire conversation.
There's nothing to defend. Nothing to force. Nothing to prove.
You can relax.
And more importantly… they can relax.
That's why one of the foundational philosophies of ESS is:
We qualify — never close. We select — never sell.
You're Not Looking for Everybody
Traditional recruiting can create a dangerous mindset: everybody is a prospect.
ESS turns that upside down.
We aren't looking for everybody. We're looking for the right people.
- People with integrity
- People with ambition
- People who are coachable
- People who want something more from their business and their life
- People who are willing to think differently
- People who may be ready to stop building their entire future around the success or failure of one company
That means your responsibility isn't to turn the wrong person into the right person.
Your responsibility is simply to discover: Who is already the right person?
Become Curious Instead of Convincing
This changes the questions you ask.
Instead of thinking: "How can I get them to join?"
Start wondering: "What does this person actually want?"
- Are they happy with their current business?
- Are they frustrated?
- What would they change if they could?
- Do they want more income — or more freedom?
- Are they tired of recruiting? Tired of chasing?
- Do they love network marketing but dislike the way they've been taught to build it?
- Are they looking for another company… or a completely different way of building?
Now you aren't conducting a sales presentation.
You're having a conversation.
And somewhere inside that conversation is the truth.
Sometimes the Truth Is NO
This may be one of the hardest lessons for network marketers to learn:
A NO can be a successful outcome.
Why? Because you discovered the truth.
Maybe the timing isn't right. Maybe they love what they're already doing. Maybe they aren't coachable. Maybe they don't have the ambition you're looking for. Maybe ESS simply isn't for them.
That's okay.
Wish them well. Serve them if you can. Stay connected. Good people need to stick together. And you never know who they may introduce you to later.
There is enormous freedom in realizing that you don't need everybody.
And Sometimes the Truth Is YES
Here's the interesting part.
When people realize that you genuinely don't need them to say yes, they often become more willing to explore.
Why? Because the pressure disappeared.
They aren't being chased. They aren't being closed. They aren't defending themselves against another pitch.
They're simply evaluating whether what you've discovered might also make sense for them.
That creates an entirely different relationship.
You become less like a recruiter… and more like a coach, guide, and selector.
That's the identity ESS is built around.
From Recruiter to Owner
For years, many network marketers have believed their breakthrough would come when they finally became better recruiters.
Maybe the real breakthrough is realizing: you don't have to become one.
You can build through relationships. You can build through curiosity. You can build through service. You can build by identifying the right people instead of convincing everyone.
And you can build a business framework that isn't completely dependent upon one company, one product, or one compensation plan.
That's part of the difference between simply participating in someone else's system and beginning to think like an Owner.
Stop renting your future from one company. Start building as an Owner.
So the next time you're talking with someone about business, forget about getting them across the line.
Never chase the yes.
Never fear the no — go for the no!
Never try to close them. Create the environment where they are trying to close you — on them!
Find the truth.
Because when the truth says NO, you've saved everyone time.
And when the truth says YES… you may have found exactly the kind of person you've been looking for.
